The Mowlem Theatre first opened in 1967, replacing a smaller original Victorian building which had stood for over 100 years. Ideally located on the sea front in the heart of Swanage town centre.
Cinema and Theatre in Swanage
The Mowlem has a combined programme of theatre and cinema with over 200 film performances and 60-100 nights of live theatre, comprising local schools and amateur societies as well as incoming professional productions.
On EVENINGS WITH A PERFORMANCE or MOVIE The Box Office will open at 6.45 pm for movies and live performances. For live performances, it will remain open until 45 minutes into the performance.
The Showbar at The Mowlem
The Showbar, Taproom and Bar, upstairs at The Mowlem, is open to the public and boasts the best views in Swanage! They serve a range of local craft beers from Eight Arch Brewery in Wimborne, ales from Hattie Brown’s Brewery here in Swanage and Purbeck Cider, as well as spirits, quality wine and soft drinks.
Function Rooms
Within the building there are two function rooms which are used for events and exhibitions. (Available for hire).
