The Story behind ‘Love It Local’
After watching the national news last Christmas, with predictions that 2023 would be a very difficult financial year for so many, we started to come up with a positive new concept for not only our business and others but also for the local community too.
After the experience of Covid we saw first hand how much the amazing community of Purbeck had come together to help each other and we thought that this was something that should be continued to be built upon.
Over the last few years we have also been very much involved in a number of fundraising projects, helping to raise over £20,000 for various charities. These include Art4Action online auctions and exhibitions; supporting the Wareham Mayor’s charitable events through our Visit Wareham website and social media; the organising of Wareham’s Saxon Festival last summer, which raised funds for MS Purbeck; promoting and selling tickets for the Joseph Calleja Fundraising Concert at the Priory Church of Lady St Mary.
Wanting to build upon the ethos of private business and charities working together we came up with the idea of the ‘Love It Local’ card. A way to support not only local charities but also local people and businesses too.
Our new ‘Love It Local’ concept immediately got some really positive feedback from local businesses and we soon secured the support of the Nationwide Building Society, the Co-op and Meyers Estate Agency.
So, when Wareham Town Hall told us they wanted to reconsider their official publicity policies going forward (including having our magazine, Wareham Tower Chimes, as the conduit for its news), it seemed the perfect opportunity to rebrand the magazine to ‘Love It Local’, giving it a new look and format.
The magazine will be published in June and will be distributed throughout Wareham, Swanage and the villages of Purbeck with editorial that will celebrate and feature all things local. It will of course, also include details about the ‘Love It Local’ card.
What charities are we supporting?
We wanted local people to have a say in the charities and good causes we are supporting. So earlier this year we created an online poll and below are the charities which were nominated. We aim to change charities every 6 months so that we can support as many as possible.
• Allison Campbell Trust
• Lewis Manning
• Margaret Green Rescue Service
• PrimeTime Kids Club
• Purbeck Youth and Community Foundation
• St Mary’s Primary School PTFA
• Stoborough Nursery
• Tyler’s Friends
• Swanage Disabled Club
• Wareham Disabled Club
